Have you ever wanted a glimpse behind-the-scenes of Columbia’s cultural destination and premier center for the performing arts? Now is your chance! Join the Koger Center for the Arts on Wednesday, January 16th for an Open House to commence year-long celebrations in honor of the center’s 30th anniversary. Since its inception as the very first modern arts center of its kind in the state in 1989, the Koger Center for the Arts has hosted major national and international touring artists, attracted acclaimed productions and luminaries from around the globe, and has inspired diverse audiences to discover the magic and sheer joy made possible through live performance. To commemorate this illustrious history while also unveiling exciting plans for the future, the Koger Center for the Arts will offer community members a unique opportunity to go behind the curtain for a day filled with unprecedented access and special entertainment.
Thirty Years of Koger: Past, Present, and Future will span the course of the morning, afternoon, and evening on January 16th, and the three sessions will journey from 1989 to 2019 and beyond! Begin your day at the Koger Center for the Arts by enjoying breakfast from The Belgian Waffle Truck and The Blended Bakery Trolley while complementary guided tours leave from the lobby each hour to tour the entirety of the state-of-the-art facility. Take a picture on the stage and share in a performer’s viewpoint as you gaze out into the expanse of the auditorium. Look and listen as we venture back in time and invite guests to experience tales and photos from decades past for a morning filled with Koger Center history. The tours will continue throughout the afternoon as we move into celebrating this 30th anniversary milestone with musicians from the University of South Carolina School of Music, the Pawley’s Front Porch mobile food truck, and an appearance from Cocky himself! Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win exclusive Broadway in Columbia packages and, as a one day only event, all ticketing fees will be waived for those purchasing tickets in person for upcoming shows at the ticket kiosk in the Koger Center lobby. The day will conclude with an evening reception featuring entertainment by the Soda City Brass Band where guests will be invited to meet, greet, and share in experiencing a vision for the future with the Koger Center for the Arts director and staff.
