Carolina Jazz Society
The summer solstice jazz event will take place in the Koger Center lobby. Tickets are $18 and seating is general admission. There will be a cash bar so that you can have a glass of wine or a beer while you listen to this traditional jazz concert.
The Carolina Jazz Society has been playing Traditional Jazz in Columbia since 1958 with the mission of fostering interest and enthusiasm in traditional jazz music in the community. The six "regular" house band members are among the very best musicians in South Carolina: Dick Goodwin, Doug Graham, Jim Hall, Bruce Clark, Aletha Jacobs, and Dustin Retzlaff.
Dick Goodwin taught at the University of Texas for nine years prior to coming to The University of South Carolina in 1973. His compositions in virtually every idiom from jingle to opera, jazz band to orchestra, have been performed across the US and abroad. Dr. Goodwin is also active as a performer (fifteen foreign and numerous domestic tours with his Quintet), arranger, and recording studio performer with numerous albums, jingles, industrial shows and film scores to his credit. Dr. Goodwin is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at UofSC and is the 2001 recipient of the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award, the highest honor given by the state of South Carolina to an individual artist.
