ROSSINI- The Barber of Seville Overture
GEORGE WALKER- Lilacs
BEETHOVEN- Symphony No.4
Beethoven's fourth symphony is a lighthearted masterpiece full of mischievous twists and turns. Both it and Rossini's famous comedic overture from The Barber of Seville are wild rides for audience and orchestea alike! Soprano Tina Stallard is featured in George Walker's Lilacs for soprano and orchestra, the first piece by an African American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Composed in 1995 the piece is based on Walt Whitman's elegy for Abraham Lincoln, When Lilacs Last in the Doorward Bloom'd.
