Respighi's iconic Pines of Rome is the epitome of orchestral showpieces. In thei sperformance, the UofSC Symphony Orchestra is joined by alumni brass players performing the off-stage band parts for the work's epic final movement, The Pines of the Appian Way. The program opens with Haydn's exuberant 88th symphony, and then cellist Clair Bryant, a recent addition to the UofSC School of Music Faculty, will bring her formidable skills to one of the most challenging and expressive works in the repertoire, Shostakovich's first cello concerto.
