This event is an album release party for the THE Dubber's Southern Cachet, but it is more than that, it is a celebration of art with a southern flair. In the words of the featured artist of the night:
"As I think back over the last 15 years of my musical journey, I’m reminded of lyrics to a song.
Heaven only knows… what the future holds
This story unfolds… at Saluda Shoals
How it came to be… baptized in the Congaree
Feeling so hootie… South Cackalaki
With these lyrics and residing in South Carolina for the same length of time, I’ve come to the realization I’m now writing as a Southerner. Begin born and raised in Washington DC, thirty percent of my youth was spent visiting with my grandparents in Edgefield, SC. So I guess this perspective was always there.
My grandmother once spoke of her father who was a blues musician. “Hamp Culbreath is where you get your musical talent”… she said. He played jukejoints all throughout Edgefield County. The combination of her story, the journey and the lyrics from my song “South Cackalaki”, I feel I’ve earned that Southern Cachet.
Southern Cachet is the title of my new album and theme of this event. The sound, vision and progression that we unknowingly inhere too today. The energy of the offspring that migrated north returning home with a new perspective which is creating a new South."
