Caroline Shaw Valencia
Ligeti Quartet No. 2
Bartók Quartet No. 5
Please join us for a night of award-winning music. The program begins with Pulitzer Prize and Grammy winning composer Caroline Shaw’s Valencia, inspired by the everyday orange filled with it’s “hundreds of brilliantly colored, impossibly delicate vesicles of juice, ready to explode.” Direct from the Parker’s Grammy recording for Best Chamber Music performance is Ligeti’s Quartet No. 2. Filled with a wide range of textures, the composer remarked that this was his favorite piece from this period of his life. Rounding out the program is Bartok’s penultimate Quartet No. 5 from the Parker’s debut recording. The music is chock full of Bulgarian folk tunes and wild urgency balanced with silly and sassy. This is sure to be an award-winning performance and an evening not to miss.
