Mahler: Symphony No. 1 in D Major, “Titan”
STATE OF TRIUMPH: Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 was only called “Titan” during its second and third performances, but some modern performances and recordings have returned to this title – perhaps because this is the first symphony by a true music Titan of the 19th Century. Billy the Kid was one of the most infamous outlaws of the 19th Century, and Aaron Copland’s ballet evokes the desperado-spirit of the American West. The SCP Youth Orchestra joins the SC Phil for this piece, so saddle up, giddy-up and join us for the last concert of the 2022/2023 Masterworks Series.
