To The Light
Cormac Cannon, conductor
Benjamin Pouncey, guest conductor
Scott Herring and Bailey Seabury, percussion
Join the Wind Ensemble on a journey from darkness into light, through the music of Marie Douglas, Igor Stravinsky, Ivan Trevino, Adolphus Hailstor, and Donald Grantham. USC School of Music Percussion faculty Scott Herring and Bailey Seabury will showcase their virtuosic talents on Trevino's Run To The Light. The second half of the program will juxtapose the darkest and most joyous elements of the American South. Hailstork's profound American Guernica reflects on the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL, while Grantham's Southern Harmony celebrates the folk tunes and shape-note melodies found in William "Singin' Billy" Walker's 1835 songbook of the same name.
Program:
Douglas, Big City Lights
Stravinsky, Symphonies of Wind Instruments
Trevino, Run to the Light (featuring Scott Herring and Bailey Seabury, percussion)
Hailstork, American Guernica
Grantham, Southern Harmony
This event is free and open to the public.
