Junie B’s Survival Guide to School

Now that Junie B. Jones has been going to school for over one-anda-half years, who better to write the book on EVERYTHING you need to know? From bus rules and Band-Aids to carpools to cookies, Junie B. shares her hard-won expertise and shows us all how school is sometimes scary, sometimes super-fun, and ALWAYS something to sing about!

A Christmas tradition since 1892, the story of the Nutcracker is about Clara, a little girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. After a ferocious struggle the Nutcracker, with Clara’s help, vanquishes the Mouse King.  In gratitude he takes her to visit the Land of Sweets populated with twirling flowers, pirouetting snowflakes and dancing sweets from around the world-all ruled over by the beautiful Sugerplum Fairy.  At the conclusion of the ballet, Clara is safely transported back to her own home and family.

Le Corsaire Suite” is a rollicking tale of sultans, princesses, maidens and pirates based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron. It was first presented by the Ballet of the Académie Royale de Musique, Paris, France in 1856.  The ballet has many celebrated passages which are among classical ballet’s most iconic and often performed pieces.

Ferdinand the Bull
February 3, 2022 - 9:30 a.m. & 11:15 a.m.

The best-known work by the American author Munro Leaf, this classic children's book transforms into a heartwarming ballet telling the story of a bull who would rather smell flowers than fight in bullfights.

Link Up, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, guides students and teachers through a semester-long exploration of orchestral repertoire.  Students sing and play soprano recorder or string instruments while learning basic musical concepts and composing their own music.  This program provides extensive standards-based teacher and student materials and culminates in an interactive orchestral concert in which students sing or play along with the SC Philharmonic.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze: Broadway in Columbia

Imaginative and fun for the whole family, CIRQUE DREAMS HOLIDAZE features a world-renowned cast of performers accompanied by an original music score including new twists on seasonal favorites such as “Deck the Halls,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Singers, dancers, penguins, toy soldiers, and reindeer invoke the dreams behind a child’s eye on the most magical of nights. Amidst a backdrop of new sets, scenery, and storylines, this family-friendly production is sure to put a twinkle in your eye!

Little Orphan Annie has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, and now the best-loved musical of all time is set to return in a new production – just as you remember it and just when we need it most.

Sensory Friendly Family Concert
February 19, 2023 – 3:00 p.m.

This concert event is designed especially for persons with sensory sensitivities and their families. As a component of the SCP's educational and outreach programs, this inclusive concert gives audience members the ability to fully experience orchestral music without any of the constraints of a standard performance. During this 60-minute program, audience members are free to move about, dance, speak, sing or vocalize. Sensory sensitive listeners and family members will delight in the discovery of orchestral experiences that invite and welcomes all to the world of classical music.
